OLD ALE
A characterful old ale. Port-like sweet yet slightly bitter, yet above all full of flavor. Delicious with aged cheese and stew.
THE STORY
On September 20, 1494, "Hendrick Pietersz 'Oudt-Heyn en syn wyf'" (Old Wife) requested permission from the aldermen of the Westzaan ban to build a house on what is now the Lagedijk. This "building application" is therefore the founding date of Zaandijk. But also of the term "old wife"? What a woman!
